NSIG 100th member...
19/11/2009

Energy and engineering umbrella organisation North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG) is delighted to announce that AMEC, the supplier of high value consultancy, engineering and project management services to the world’s energy, power and process industries, has joined the group as its 100th member. Employing more than 21,000 people in more than 30 countries and with annual revenues in excess of £2.6 billion, AMEC is now the largest member of NSIG.

NSIG’s area of operation ranges from the Orkney Islands, to Caithness, Outer Hebrides, Ross-shire, Inverness, Moray and Aberdeen. Its membership has more than doubled in the past two years.

Headquartered in Invergordon, NSIG has set up eight focus groups covering the entire North of Scotland and the Islands – with the latest being established in Shetland in September. The purpose of the focus groups is to discuss ways of raising the profile of companies in their immediate area and the support required to promote them at a national and political level.

NSIG chief executive Ian Couper, who is a member of two cross party committees at Holyrood for renewable energy and oil and gas, said: “The fact that we have now secured our 100th member, and that it is such a prestigious company as AMEC, really shows how far the group has come in recent years.

“From initially being a networking organisation a few years ago, our size and geographic spread have enabled us to grow into an organisation of real strength, ensuring that members get their voices heard among local national politicians and other key decision-makers.

“The announcement of AMEC as our 100th member, the creation of the Shetland focus group and the interest we generated recently at Offshore Europe all point to an ever-expanding and more powerful organisation with more success to come.”

Sidney Dantuma Johnston, AMEC’s head of supply chain, Europe & West Africa, said: “By joining NSIG, AMEC is able to access some world class companies and enhance the competitive landscape.

“AMEC's various business units covering oil and gas, renewables and nuclear have all been active in the geographic areas supported by NSIG. Indeed AMEC has helped a number of NSIG member companies access opportunities that otherwise they may not have been able to access. Given the win-win value proposition, we therefore look forward to working with NSIG.”
